When hiking or backpacking in the back country, running into a bear is very possible. Knowing what to do is powerful and could save your life.
You can always use great advice while hiking, or backpacking in the back country.
Remember to always have your bear spray readily available when hiking or backpacking. I also carry a firearm as back up, if needed.
I use my alltrails app to plan my hiking and backpacking trips based on search location. The app gives a lot of information about specific hiking trails and comes with personal reviews from other hikers, recommendations. It also has tracking of distance, calories burned, elevation climbs and photos. This app is a great tool for hiking and backpacking trips.
Hiking is a sport that takes time to build up to more aggressive trails that will challenge your senses, muscles, and stamina. If you are a beginner I recommend having a good pair of comfortable shoes, a good backpack with plenty of water and healthy snacks. Start off on easy trails then work up to moderate and then hard. Take your time and stop to smell the roses along the way. Take plenty of photos and always be bear aware. Bear spray and a pistol is always a good idea. Watch for signs of bears or other wild life and smells of wild animals and movements through the trees. Make noise and always use caution around bends and thick wooded areas. Most of all have fun and take your time, it is not a race it's a hike. Avoid using headphones or ear buds, stop, look, listen, and smell. then proceed and have fun.
Some of the best times of my life started on a hiking trailhead where we found a game trail and took off of the beaten path. Loaded up with our packs we would Hike in while backpacking and find a secluded spot near water, set up camp, and eat fresh fish we caught. Some of the hikes came with recommendations and some we just started walking and found some great places to hang.
